For men stepping down from treatment, and the teams who discharge them
Coaching for Men Stepping Down From Treatment
Treatment gives you structure. Then you go home, back to work and back to the same calendar that wore you down. Joseph Sparks, LCSW, gives men daily structure for that stretch, alongside their clinical team, never instead of it.
What the first months back look like
Structure that steps down with you
- 1Before dischargeA call with you, and with your team if you want them involved, to set goals.
- 2First weeks homeTwo quick check-ins a day and a weekly session, so the routine doesn't collapse.
- 3Back to workA plan for the calendar, travel and the pressure that got you here.
- 4Building on itSleep, training, food and relationships at home, worked on week by week.
- 5OngoingMonthly continuing care, with your clinicians still leading your treatment.
What this is and isn't
This is
- Daily structure and accountability after a program ends
- Coaching on sleep, training, food, work and life at home
- A plan that follows your clinical team's recommendations
- Updates to your team, with your consent
This isn't
- Treatment, therapy or medical care
- A replacement for your therapist, psychiatrist or recovery program
- Crisis support (call or text 988, or 911)
- A fit for anyone who still needs a higher level of care

Common questions
Do I need my treatment team's okay?
We strongly prefer it. Coaching works best when it follows your clinicians' plan, and with your consent Joey can keep them updated.
Is this therapy?
No. Joey is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, but this is coaching. Keep your therapy, medication management and recovery supports in place.
Can we meet in person?
Yes, in Westlake Village, or by video and phone anywhere in the US.
I work at a treatment program. How do we refer?
See the referral page for how it works, who's a good fit, and how your team stays in the loop.
Plan the step-down before it happens
A free 30-minute call is the easiest way to see whether coaching fits your next stage.
If you or someone you know is in crisis or thinking about suicide, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 911. Coaching is not an emergency service.
